In partnership with Dr. Jackson Gainer (biology professor at TN Wesleyan), there will be a space created for matches to learn about the importance of advocating for themselves and gain insight into a student's expectations from a professor's perspective. Dinner will be provided!
At an info session, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, including opportunities to get involved, common misconceptions and the benefits of mentoring, an open Q&A session, and hear from a current Big.
Thursday, November 17th from 5 - 6:30 pm. Dinner will be served at 5 pm, and the training will begin at 5:30 pm. Bigs, Littles and Guardians invited. Childcare and activities will be provided for youth during the training. Please join us to gain a deeper understanding of the risk factors that may lead to youth substance use/development of a substance use disorder and how to have conversations with youth.
Let’s get ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday with a little exercise - a hike to a waterfall in the Smokies. This is one of the least well-kept secrets in the Smokies. This 2 mile round trip hike to a beautiful waterfall begins at the Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont and passes by places of historical and geological interest. We travel through several forest types to eat lunch by a 60-foot waterfall.
